Understanding Dry Eye
Dry eye is an increasingly common condition that can range from mildly uncomfortable to significantly disruptive to your daily life. The good news is that with the right diagnosis and treatment, symptoms can be effectively managed and you can lead a normal life.
We offer some of the most advanced dry eye therapies available.
Causes and Symptoms of Dry Eye
Dry eye occurs when the eyes don’t produce enough tears, or when the quality of the tear film is poor. A leading cause can be meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), where the glands responsible for producing the oily layer of the tear film become blocked or stop functioning properly.
Symptoms include persistent dryness, a gritty or burning sensation, redness, blurred vision, watery eyes, and general eye discomfort. You might particularly notice symptoms after screen use or when you’re in dry or windy environments.
Our Treatment Approach
When you visit us, Dr. Janjua will assess your eyes through a comprehensive sight test or dedicated dry eye assessment, including a meibomian gland scan to determine the nature and severity of your condition. From there, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
We offer the Eye-Light IPL (intense pulsed light) and LLLT/PMB system (low level light therapy/photobiomodulation), widely regarded as one of the most effective treatments available for dry eye disease. IPL uses gentle thermal pulses to stimulate the meibomian glands, while LLLT uses light to carefully heat the eyelids restoring gland function, stabilising the tear film, and relieving symptoms.
We also offer a range of supportive treatments, including Blephasteam, Activa Eye Mask, NuLids, and ZEST — which can be used alongside IPL/LLLT or as effective stand-alone options depending on what’s right for you.
