Your Child's Vision, Our Priority
From learning in the classroom to playing sports and games with friends, good vision is fundamental to a child’s development, learning, and confidence.
At John Flynn Opticians, we make children’s eye care a priority. We provide you and your family with thorough, friendly examinations in a relaxed environment where little ones feel at ease.
Why Early Eyecare Matters
Children’s eyes develop rapidly in the early years of life, which means any uncorrected vision problems can have a real impact on learning and development.
Conditions such as lazy eye (amblyopia), squint (strabismus), and short-sightedness (myopia) are all far more effectively treated when caught early. We recommend bringing your child for their first eye examination from around 3-4 years of age – and for regular check-ups every 2 years.
Signs To Watch Out For
Children don’t always know their vision isn’t as it should be, so it’s important to watch for warning signs. These can include sitting too close to screens, frequent eye rubbing, difficulty reading or concentrating, head tilting, or complaints of headaches and eye strain. If you notice any of these, it’s worth booking an examination sooner rather than later.
Each exam takes around 20–30 minutes in a calm, child-friendly setting. If glasses are recommended, we stock a great range of children’s frames from trusted brands including Tomato Glasses, Wolf Eyewear, William Morris and Charles Stone — durable, comfortable, and stylish. For children aged 11 and over, we can also discuss whether contact lenses may be a suitable option.
